SUMMARY:Symposium: Sustainable Finance- An Indic Context
DESCRIPTION:Billions of Dollars are being channelled into green finance, climate change
and ESG. Neo-liberal capitalism is being forced to rethink its very founda
 tional science and market fundamentalism.\nContemporary public-interested s
cholars are fierce critics of the current obsession with ESG and CSR. These
measures are called ‘hypocritical spin machines‘ which sidestep real and s
ustainable reforms in the domain of Finance. In scholastic literature  ‘goo
d’ and ‘sustainable leadership in finance’  are absent from debate and disc
ussion, to a large extent.\nIndia is well placed to provide global intellec
tual and educational leadership through its sustainable Dharmic Wisdom, co-
existence and lived history, traditions, practices and experiences of Susta
inable Finance. The cultural moorings of India as a sustainable society in
practices and habits is reflected in its financial paradigm, metrices, prac
tices and approach. This symposium will showcase Professor Atul K. Shah’s p
ioneering research published in a new book ‘Inclusive and Sustainable Finan
ce’ which shows how some Indian business leaders have rare indigenous wisdo
m and provide exemplary guidance to deal with this challenge. It will be a
unique opportunity to recharge and renew science and education in accountin
g and finance to deal with our existential crises.\nThe faculty and student
s will be immensely benefited from such an important and developing concept
in Finance. \nSpeaker:Prof. Atul K. Shah \nGlobally renowned expert adviso
r, thought leader, writer, educator and broadcaster\nProf. Atul K. Shah has
a PhD from LSE and has published several books and research papers on Acco
unting and Finance. He presently teaches at City, University of London and
has global experience of lecturing and broadcasting, including several BBC
programmes and profiles in the Guardian and the Financial Times. His latest
book 'Inclusive and Sustainable Finance - Leadership, Ethics and Culture'
published by Routledge will be profiled by the BBC World Service and has al
ready been widely covered in various media. In January 2023 Professor Shah
